NEWS- RANCHERS SUE COLORADO PARKS AND WILDLIFE IN AN ATTEMPT TO DELAY WOLF REINTRODUCTION

Two Colorado ranching groups sued Colorado Parks and Wildlife over the wolf reintroduction shortly after the 10(j) rule went into effect on Dec. 8. The 10(j) rule already allows ranchers to kill wolves to defend their cattle if necessary--allowing for the flexability of wolf management in the state. The 10(j) rule also was narrowly passed in 2020 by Colorado voters.

Of course, we are disappointed. Wolf advocates and conservation groups have made an effort to get to this point, we are afraid of what the outcome of this event may mean for wolves. One of the organizations that sued claimed that the wolves 'pose a threat to livestock', when in fact, wolves are responsble for only 0.2% of cattle losses.

However, we optimistic that Colorado Parks and Wildlife will defend their rights to reintroduce wolves into the state. Parks and Wildlife aims to reintroduce wolves by the end of 2023. We will continue to fight for the wolves and we encourage you to do the same.
